The Vision Continued

Welcome back.

Had to leave yesterday to give my 2 minutes on CJBQ and to go to work. By the way that work thing is a big part of my vision. I hear about the need for a decent job from many people on an ongoing basis either at work where I am involved in managing a not for profit organization that works with families with young children or just in personal contacts. Back to the vision for the City of Quinte West. I came across a brochure produced a couple of years ago about a green tourist/ power generating /educational concept that Council initially supported and then withdrew support - this was the Quinte Eco Centre Project to be located near Dam Number One on  the Trent River. This project had Trenval support, would have worked with all of our neighbours and would combine both Federal and Provincial support. It would appeal to all local schools, visitors passing through and anyone interested in the latest forms of green technology. I mention this project with regret, because Council dropped it and as a concept that would have compared well to the proposed new marina. The big difference was our costs for this Eco project was $1.75 million not the $13 million for a marina. Seems that we were in a big hurry to have it now and the Eco Project needed more time. Seems like the marina needs to happen in a hurry. I ask you the readers and voters to ask why? Come out to our next Council meeting this Monday October 18 at 6:30 at City Hall. You can ask Council, especially the majority that have to have a marina as fast as possible. You will also meet boaters and other members of the public who, like many of us, have a problem with how our current Council plans to spend our taxes. It is also a chance for us to meet.

On another note work and the campaign to get re-elected are calling. If you would like to help out with my campaign, and I could use some additional help with signs, material distribution and just getting the word out, give me call at home at 613 395-2031 or introduce yourself at the meeting. You can make a difference by getting involved.

Stay tuned...
